More than 40 ENERGY STAR® Awards for Wells Real Estate Funds
NORCROSS, Ga. (Aug. 13, 2010) – Wells Real Estate Funds, a nationwide real estate investment firm, has earned the ENERGY STAR® designation for energy efficiency at more than 40 of its portfolio office properties, the company announced today.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR designation is awarded to select properties that meet demanding standards for energy efficiency. Wells portfolios now own 42 such buildings nationwide. Recent additions to the list include 100 East Pratt at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, leased to tenants including T. Rowe Price; and an AT&T building, 1025 Lenox Park Blvd., in Atlanta’s Buckhead area.
Wells portfolios include 123 buildings across the U.S., most of them Class-A office space. “We’ve reached a real milestone in our energy program, with more than a third of Wells buildings now ENERGY STAR certified,” said Scott Meadows, managing director, Property Services. “As an ENERGY STAR Partner, we’re committed to the continuous improvement of energy performance, and we have an energy efficiency plan in place for every property.”
Ninety Wells buildings now participate in the ENERGY STAR program, including every property where Wells is responsible for energy. (Some buildings, where tenants are responsible for their own energy, do not yet participate.) Wells properties in the program average 77 points on ENERGY STAR’s scoring scale, with 65 of them exceeding the national average of 50. “We think the program benefits building owners and tenants alike,” Meadows said. “Tenants today want green offices. And the efficiency program drives costs down, too.”
